BusinessWeek profiled Campbell Soup Co. CEO Doug Conant this week in its section under Turnaround Artists. While reading the terrific gains the company has experienced under Conant, the writer described Conant’s style of sending out more than 16,000 handwritten thank-you notes to staffers. It reminded me of the personal note I received from Conant. We were discussing my book at a meeting in NY and the next day I received a lovely handwritten note. My colleague received one too! I never forgot that note and actually saved it. Very impressive.

The BusinessWeek article quotes Conant as saying: “In business, we’re trained to find things that are wrong, but I try to celebrate what’s right.” Good advice.
